About

I'm a PhD student in the Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge. My research explores new ways of understanding bird iconography on Middle/Late Bronze Age bronzes in Central Europe.

The questions and goals of my research are:

- to construct a data base of ornitographic motifs (both 2 and 3-dimensional) on Middle/Late Bronze Age metalwork from Central Europe

- how did the innate material qualities of metal, particularly its surface properties and plasticity, inform the design of bird images?

- to explore the relationship between the depositional context, type of artefact (e.g. weapon, ornament, etc.) and choice of motif

- to theorise the socio-religious significance of bird symbolism in Middle/Late Bonze Age Europe
