About
My research interests are in the intersections of technology, art, and society in the Upper Palaeolithic (c. 40,000 to 10,000 years before present). I use chaine operatoire method and theory to study Palaeolithic portable art both microscopically and macroscopically. For my PhD, I studied Gravettian portable art from sites in the Czech Republic (c. 28-24,000 years before present). I am now studying late Magdalenian portable art from sites in the midi-Pyrenees region of France (c. 14-11,000 years before present), curated at the British Museum. I am also involved in excavations and research at Vela Spila (Korcula island, Croatia). For this project, I am studying portable art and personal ornaments from Palaeolithic and Mesolithic horizons. I am particularly interested in the modification of mammoth ivory, antler, bone and shell to make art.
