About
BIO
I am a doctoral researcher (PhD candidate) in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge, UK, where I also received an MPhil in International Relations; a consultant on Korean politics for the Mission of Portugal at the United Nations, USA; and a non-resident researcher with the Portuguese Institute of International Relations, Portugal.
Previously, in 2011 I was a visiting researcher at Columbia University and in 2010 a visiting fellow at Harvard University, USA, studying International Relations and Mathematics at both institutions. Between 2005 and 2008 I was a NIIED-KGSP scholar at Sogang University, South Korea, where I studied International Relations. From 2000 to 2003 I was an affiliate at the General Direction of European Affairs of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
RESEARCH
My research fields are: i) theories of integration, supranational governance, and balancing; ii) integration in Europe and East Asia; iii) Korean reunification.
Following my interest in integration, my PhD dissertation offers an generalisable explanation for the establishment of a defence policy in the European Union.
Alongside my doctoral dissertation, I am working on a strategic approach in International Relations - which I define as "tridimensional" - from which micro-theories and their derived formal models can be built to explain the different international processes. It will be empirically applied to a comparative case of integration in Europe and East Asia.
I also have an interest in Korean reunification, being particularly focused in developing game theoretical models of prospective scenarios.
GRANTS
My doctoral research is fully funded by the Portuguese government (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia).
Previously, I was awarded scholarships by Robinson College, the Cambridge European Trust, Fundação Oriente, National Institute for International Education - Korean Government Scholarship Program, and Sogang University.
LANGUAGES
My working languages are Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Korean.
