About
Martina is a second year PhD student in the Psychology and Education Academic Group. She graduated from the University of Zagreb, with a Ba(Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy. Subsequently, she did her MPhil in Psychology and Education at the University of Cambridge in 2009. Her research interests include; the development of self-regulation and metacognitive skills in young children, self-regulated learning, the relationship between language and cognitive development and Vygotskian sociocultural theory.
She is particularly interested in the relationship between self-directed speech (speech directed to self, a.k.a. 'private speech') and young children's ability to self-regulate. She is looking at the patterns of private speech and self-regulatory behaviour co-occurrence in typically developing 6-year-olds and those with Specific Language Impairment (SLI).
