Thesis Title: The reception of the Council of Trent in the New Kingdom of Granada

Dr Gabriela Ramos

About

I work on the history of the Spanish empire in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, focusing on the Catholic Church, especially in New Granada.

More specifically, I am interested in questions of race and language in religious conversion, the role of religion in colonialism, and in the complex interaction of the centre and the periphery in this initial period of Spanish presence in the New World.

My current work focuses on the reception of the Council of Trent in the New Kingdom of Granada.
