About

I am from the United States and currently studying for an MPhil Development Studies at the University of Cambridge, U.K.  I am applying for Ph.D. programs to begin fall 2012.

I am a researcher for USAID's Global Broadband and Innovation program.  On a regular basis, I write articles on gbiportal.net, and contribute to additional websites as a guest blogger.

My past research experience is in Mexico and Guatemala working with small NGOs to design evaluation strategies.  Currently, I am working for CHOICE Humanitarian in Mexico to measure the impact of a rural Internet telecenter on the social life of nearby villagers.  I have developed survey questions based on Dorothea Kleine's choice framework, an operationalization of Sen's capabilities approach, to capture the contribution of Internet usage to economic, health, political, and educational freedoms.  Thus far, my research shows that increased internet usage has educational and social benefits, but that the jump to converting these benefits to more tangible capital, such as a stable job, has yet to be made.
