About
Eva-Maria Hempe is interested in questions around knowledge creation and management, organizational learning and contextual settings. Her research focuses on health care services but she hopes to be able to draw some general conclusions for public services which could inform policy making.
She studied Physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (Munich, Germany), Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet (Erlangen, Germany) and the University of Regensburg. After a research visit to the Material Science Department of the University of Cambridge in 2006, where she studied magnetic nanowires using transmission electron microscopy, she graduated with a "Diplom in Physik" (equivalent to MA) from the University of Regensburg in May 2007. She then worked from June until August 2007 as a Visiting Associate for the Boston Consulting Group.
In October 2007 she began her PhD studies at the University of Cambridge. She was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship, a St John's College Benefactors' Scholarship as well as an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council Scholarship.
She first investigated surface plasmons in thin metal films and also published on this. After her Certificate in Postgraduate Studies in 2008, she transferred to the Department of Engineering where she is trying to transfer scientific methods to social science questions. She is part of the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough which was setup up as a new approach to translational research, looking for new ways to bridge the gap between research and practice.
